| The Glory of God Revealed in Nature |
How many of us go through life not seeing the glory of God revealed in His creation; taking for granted the blessings freely given to us? Jesus said, Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. (Matt. 6:28-29) When I first moved into my present home I noticed some lush green foliage growing by the fence in my backyard. I expected to see some lovely flowers to appear among this. But after a short time the greenery fell over and died. I was so disappointed! Why did this happen? Then I soon forgot about it. Some weeks later as I looked out my kitchen window I noticed something "odd" by the back fence. On looking closer I saw a tall stem and a beautiful flower growing on top of this stem. I was later told this is called a resurrection lily. How perfectly this portrays our risen Savior! The greenery typifies LIFE, and we know that He only is the life. That it died typifies His crucifixion on Calvary. The beautiful flower typifies the glory of God shown forth in Christ. He finished the work that the Father gave Him to do, and He now sits at the right hand of God making intercession for believers. We could say Stop! Consider the rose, a beautiful, sweet-smelling flower! It begins as a small bud and as the delicate petals slowly unfold it becomes a full-blown lovely flower. I see the beauty of Christ in this rose. Believers begin as this small bud, and as they grow in grace and the knowledge of Christ, beholding His glory, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even by the Spirit of the Lord. (2 Cor. 3:18) Consider the honey bee. A bee hive consists of the queen, the drones and the worker bees. The sole function of the queen is to lay the eggs to increase the hive. The drones purpose is to feed the queen nothing but a substance called royal jelly and to mate with her at an appointed time. Immediately after mating with the queen the drones die. The worker bees clean the hive and leave to collect from flowers the nectar to make the honey. As they collect this nectar they pollinate the flowers. I see the church typified by this bee hive. The queen typifies the church, the drones typify the preachers of the word of God who die to self and are led by the Spirit. The royal jelly typifies the gospel of Christ. The worker bees typify those who go out into the world and spread the good news of Christ. And just as important - as King David said, "I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness." NONE SHOULD BE IDLE! |
